From the ARTIST:
My name is Jon McNaughton and this is my painting “Justice For All.” It’s a special painting that has a lot of meaning to me. As you see Moses pointing to Heaven, holding the Ten Commandments, standing on the steps of the Supreme Court building, surrounded by the great law-givers of the past.
One of my favorite parts of the painting is Madison as he’s standing on the steps, you see him holding the Bill of Rights as a black slave ascends those steps as the chains of slavery fall to the ground.
All people, regardless of race or religion, should be treated the same. Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and happiness, as long as they don’t infringe on the rights of others.
Our country has endured trials and suffering, but is there truly justice in America, today? Are the rights of all people treated equally under the law? What about the victims of crime? The fallen officers? The soldiers? What about the black, white, brown, yellow, or red-skinned man or woman who has not been given equal justice? What about the children, or the unborn children?
Is not justice expected to be blind?
I think it’s important that we remember that everyone needs to be treated equally under the law.
On the frame of the originally painting is engraved these words: “Man’s judgements, his decisions, his very flesh and bones, will fail him. However, the rule of law, anchored in the wisdom of God will not. Therefore, let us always endeavor to be a nation of laws and of God, never of man.”
